What is an Employers’ Liability Insurance?

The Employers’ Liability Insurance covers your legal liability in respect of accidental death or bodily injury to employees resulting from workplace conditions or practices. This entails legal representation in case of a suit being filed against your business, compensation of damages to the injured and compensation to the family of the deceased.

Whether you have a large or small business, as long as you have employees under your responsibility, you are liable for their occupational health and safety. Meaning if your employee is injured while conducting work duties as assigned by your business, you may be held legally responsible for the incident.

Sure some industries are riskier than others, especially those where manual-intensive labour is the crux of their business activity – and they definitely require the employers’ liability insurance. But whichever business you may be in, mishaps can happen anywhere, anytime.

Just to give you an idea of how critical this insurance is, some countries legally oblige a business to obtain an employers’ liability insurance if they have employees under their responsibility.

If you’re unsure about its necessity, contact our office or your broker to find out more information.
