Having a motor accident during lockdown period

Since the Department of Health has issued a ‘lockdown’, unless you are part of what is considered as part of an essential service you really have no reason to be on the road. In this regards, Sacos Insurance Group needs to comply with the lockdown rules and as such only Motor accidents occurring as follows will be considered valid claims:

  • Accidents occurring in the course of one’s duty for an essential service and in possession of a work access permit valid at the time of the accident as confirmed by the Police;
  • Accidents by someone driving to and from an essential service provider to and from his/her place of residence as confirmed by the Police.

We have requested the Police to verify recently expired Sacos insurance disk with us so that we can confirm compulsory Motor cover telephonically to allow you passage.

The importance of staying home during this pandemic

Seychelles has been fortunate thus far to have covid-19 related death; consequently a lot of people are underestimating the seriousness of the pandemic, and do not understand the role their staying home has on flattening the curve.

Here is why you should stay home:

It is estimated that a person that has covid-19 is likely to transmit the virus to approximately 10 other people. Each of those 10 persons will then go on to transmit to another 10 people, and so the chain goes on and ensures a rapid, continuous spread of the virus.

By staying home, you are helping to break the chain of transmission. This is two-fold: With every contact the Department of Health is able to account for, chain of transmission is broken and Seychelles can stay ahead of the spread of the virus. However if any link is missed and an infected individual remains out and about, and in the process is also infecting others, that chain will grow and grow until we’re faced with an epidemic of Coronavirus of our own.

By slowing down the rate of transmission, pressure is relieved off of our health care system.

Staying home makes all the difference between people living, and people dying.

Mitigating the effect of COVID -19 on your Mental Health

It seems that everywhere you look, the first thing that jumps out at you is “Coronavirus” or “Covid-19” — either on TV, on Social Media, Newspaper, online news. We know that the virus poses a physical threat to your wellbeing, but you should also be mindful of your your mental health.

Worries related to coronavirus can include fears that yourself or a family member will become sick, the negative impact the pandemic will have on your investments, and more recently — lost income due to reduced hours or workplace closure. When you add these stressors to other factors such as self-isolation and quarantine, general anxiety and uncertainty, your mental health can be negatively impacted.

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, try a few of these suggestions to bring yourself back to a calm space again:

Normalise any intense uncomfortable emotions you are having: These are tough times, don’t berate yourself for how you are feeling. People will tell you to be grateful for your health, but let’s be honest, it is equally important for us to acknowledge that social distancing, quarantine or isolation is hard.

Stay connected! Keep in touch with friends and family through via WhatsApp, facebook, skype etc.. and find online support groups or social-media communities related to your interests.

Consume news wisely: There are a lot of fake information going around, stay informed about the pandemic, especially at your local level, but try to get the news from reputable sources instead of information that is being distorted and passed around. Non-factual information can drive up your anxiety unnecessarily.

Establish a routine: Get enough sleep, get dressed in the morning, take a shower and eat a healthy diet. Exercise. Go out for a walk and some fresh air, even if it’s only into your own garden. Build some structure into an otherwise empty day.

More importantly, reach out to a professional if your mental health is getting the better of you. It is vital that you seek help rather than bottling it all in.

Remember, this is unchartered territory for all of us, so we are all in this together. Keep safe.

Things you can do while on home quarantine

As much of Seychelles, as well as the rest of the world adjusts to a new normal of restricted living, you may find that you’re running out of things to do– and fast!

If you do not have work to do at home, here are a few ideas you may want to consider:

Start a new hobby! This can be anything really, from learning how to knit, to yoga, to meditation to gardening  — as long as it’s something! I mean, do you have anything better to do?

If you have kids, this is a great opportunity to spend some more time with them. There are plenty of engaging activities you can do together that does not require leaving the house. Involve them in the kitchen, bake and cook together. Finger painting for the younger kids, building something with the older ones. Remember, this is hard for them too, they’re off school and missing their friends, having a social life, so keeping them occupied with something other than school work can help relieve some of the stress.

Read a book! When was the last time you had enough time on your hands to pick up a new book?
Join some facebook groups! Whatever your interest, we’re sure there’s a group for it! You can share as well as gain some ideas for things to do.
Start a pinterest board! If you don’t have a pinterest account, get one. Especially for home and DIY projects, there are literally millions of ideas for whatever you want to get done!
We know it can get a little boring, but if we all do our part and stay home, it hopefully will not be for long. Whatever you do, stay safe.
